Home / About Us

SPARC is a model cannabis dispensary that is considered by the San Francisco Department of Public Health as the “gold standard” for dispensary operations. As of August 2015, SPARC has acquired a dispensary at 473 Haight Street with the intention to remodel the site to be a branded a Farm Direct by SPARC dispensary facility. The 473 Haight Street location will undergo renovation upon approval of our building permit application. As with any SPARC facility, our application to the Planning Department proposes a professional façade and design that lends favorably to beautifying the local area and preserving its historic values.

Our goal is to create a beautiful exterior façade for both our members and neighbors in the community to enjoy. SPARC was awarded the “Best Interior Design” award in 2009 by the American Institute of Architecture of San Francisco. It has also been dubbed the “apple store” of cannabis by the New York Times. You can see the interior and exterior of our current location here:

As with the award winning architecture at our current location at 1256 Mission Street, we hope to bring this same design and enhancement to the 400 block of Haight Street, and many others on the block agree. We share in our neighbor’s excitement for a newly finished, modern retail façade that enhances the appearance of the block for the entire community.

SPARC has submitted a building permit application to the San Francisco Planning Department to remodel the interior and exterior of the building. We have worked closely with the San Francisco Planning Department’s historic preservation commission to voluntarily restore the facade facing Haight Street to retain its rich historical building fabric to match the history and culture of the neighborhood. Additionally, the remodel will beautify the neighborhood, not only for SPARC members, but for neighboring merchants, residents, and other patrons. You may see pictures of the current façade compared with our proposed façade below:

OUR STORY

SPARC is a nonprofit collective dedicated to providing lab-tested, affordable, high quality cannabis and subsidized health services to our members.
We aim to educate our patients about cannabis treatments and other alternative health approaches to supplement their medicine.
SPARC advocates for government change. We seek to be a voice for the implementation of best practices for the regulation and taxation of medical cannabis.

SPARC began as a collaboration between several small collectives serving distinct patient populations in San Francisco. SPARC’s work was focused primarily on serving low-income patients suffering from chronic and terminal illnesses.
As our member-base continued to expand through the integration of small patient collectives, we sought a permit from the City of San Francisco to open a central healing center and dispensary. This important step allows us to increase our capacity to serve a wider array of members. Our organization is rooted in the same compassionate, patient-centered service that we have maintained for almost a decade. We work to bring a community-friendly and scientific approach to providing medical cannabis to our members.
Your membership with SPARC helps us continue to expand our free health service programs, as well as our subsidized distribution network for seriously ill, low-income patients in San Francisco.
We have been providing medical cannabis to critically ill patients in hospice at no cost for almost 10 years.

SPARC cultivates the vast majority of its own medicine with the expert member-cultivators on staff. Our team uses sustainable growing techniques to bring out the best qualities of the plant. We oversee the production of most of our medicine from seed to harvest to packaging.
Our aim is to provide consistent high-grade cannabis our members can rely on. We focus on bringing out the highest medicinal qualities of each strain that we offer. We constantly work to increase our knowledge of new cultivation techniques and innovations, and we work with our members to ensure this knowledge finds its way into higher quality medicine. Because we oversee much of our own production, we can offer more affordable prices to our patients on select top-shelf medical cannabis.
